Rousey vs. Carano video: Robelis Despaigne flattens Junior dos Santos with brutal knockout in first round

Robelis Despaigne made an impression on Saturday with a devastating knockout over former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos in the first ever MMA fight on Netflix.

The gigantic heavyweight, who most recently became champion in Karate Combat, showed off his huge power while taking on a legend like dos Santos. While he struggled with some leg kicks early, Despaigne finally found an opening for his punches when he tagged dos Santos with a stiff right hand that put the Brazilian on wobbly legs.

From there, Despaigne unloaded two more punches with his right hand sending dos Santos down to the canvas in a heap as referee Frank Trigg rushed in to stop the fight. The end came at 2:59 in the first round.

“I’m so happy for the work I’ve been doing to get here,” Despaigne said after his win. “I saw him stumbling and he kicked me on the legs first and I kept calm, I saw him stumbling and that’s when I struck.

“This is a sport I like but I do have to thank Karate Combat for getting me here today. I want to do both. I want Francis Ngnanou to win and I want to go for a belt in this company.”

A big overhand punch from Despaigne opened the fight and dos Santos fired back with a leg kick that twisted the Cuban around in an early exchange. Another leg kick from dos Santos took Despaigne off his feet momentarily as the former UFC heavyweight champion looked to mix up his strikes against his monstrous opponent.

Despiagne unloaded a huge right hand that cracked dos Santos hard and he was immediately on rubber legs as he backed up towards the cage. Despiagne followed with a quick left hand and then a powerful right behind it that separated dos Santos from consciousness.

It was a jaw-dropping knockout from Despaigne, who struggled to maintain that same level of success in the UFC but now it appears he’s ready for another run in MMA following the win over dos Santos.
