Dodgers Blow Out Angels to Win Freeway Series Since 2024
The Los Angeles Dodgers have secured the first Freeway Series victory on the road after their 15-2 win on Saturday, May 16.
The Dodgers and Angels battled for the first Freeway series, but after just two games, the Dodgers have reasserted their dominance with two straight wins, and they will go for the sweep on Sunday, May 17.
The Dodgers have stumbled from the start of May to the end of April, with a massive offensive slump and multiple pitching injuries.
However, the team has really come around over the last week, and in Anaheim, they have continued to take steps towards becoming the team they were expected to be before the season.
The Dodgers’ bats are rolling
Finally, the top of the lineup looks like it is finally starting to click. Shohei Ohtani had one of his best games of the season, with a 2-for-4 game with a triple and a double, five RBIs, and two walks.
Ohtani looks to be on the other side of his worst slump as a Dodger.
Mookie Betts, who recently returned from the injured list, went 2-for-4 as well with a home run, a walk, and an RBI.
Betts is another player who has gotten off to a slow start by his standards, but his swing looks good, and the approach is starting to sharpen.
All of the players who took more than one at-bat reached base at least once.
There is some important context to add — this game was out of hand quickly once Jose Soriano lost command, and the Dodgers only had two more hits than the Angels, but won by 13 runs.
Still, for team morale and gaining momentum, the offense will certainly take this performance.
The pitching staff continues to dominate
Justin Wrobleski is continuing his unexpected run as a strong starting pitcher. He allowed seven hits, two runs, a walk, and totaled five strikeouts.
His ERA is 2.49 on the season, and he has gone long in all of his starts, helping to give the bullpen needed rest. Tonight, his outing was very key following a bullpen game.
Blake Treinen, Wyatt Milles, and Charlie Barnes all kept runs off the board, though they were low-leverage spots considering the score.
Still, the Angels can get hot quickly and start slugging in a hurry, and all three relievers came in and did their job.
The Dodgers are almost in the clear of a stretch of no rest, with only one game left against the Angels and a series against the Padres.
