Bandon’s Petrey wins three events at Cottage Grove meet
Bandon’s Marley Petrey added another school record to her collection while winning multiple events as several South Coast track and field teams had their final tuneup for this week’s district meets during the Wally Ciochetti Invitational at Cottage Grove on Friday.
Petrey ran a new best 25.31 seconds to win the 200 meters and also won the 100 (12.51) and the 300 hurdles (45.09).
Bandon’s Giada Moore was second in the 200 (26.29) and 300 hurdles (47.12) and tied teammate Claire Briggs for seventh in the 100 (13.17).
Coquille star Ella Henthorn limited her evening to the 1,500, winning in a speedy 4 minutes and 38.07 seconds. North Bend’s Addison Horning was fourth (4:47.69) and Bandon’s Jael Legutki sixth (4:52.86), both setting personal bests.
Marshfield was third (51.37) and Bandon fifth (51.56) in the 4×100 relay. In the 4×400 relay Bandon was fourth (4:16.32) and Marshfield sixth (4:18.83).
Marshfield’s Kindall Wyatt was sixth in the 400 (1:02.17). North Bend’s Lauren Wole was fifth in the 3,000 in a new best 11:36.98.
Siuslaw’s Aidell Cadet won the 100 hurdles (16.18) and high jump (5-0).
In other field events, North Bend’s Zoya Wilson won the shot put with a new best 36-4. Marshfield’s Sierra Sauers was fifth (34-7 ½). Sauers was second in the discus (109-4) with Bandon’s Marlie Carmack fourth (105-5).
Bandon’s Caitlyn Michalek won the javelin (122-8) with North Bend’s Olivia Smith second (110-6). Marshfield’s Isabel Ashton was sixth (101-9).
Coquille’s Ada Millet was fourth in the pole vault (9-6), a spot in front of Marshfield’s Ella Croson (9-0).
Coquille’s Bristol Layton was second in the long jump (15-5 ½). Bandon’s Moore was second in the triple jump (32-8).
On the boys side, Marshfield’s Jaxson Stovall set a new best while winning the 3,000 meters in 8:42.94.
Bandon’s Noah Brown won the 800 meters (2:00.62). North Bend’s Angelo Pedrini was fifth (2:02.48).
Marshfield’s boys were fourth in the 4×100 in a season-best 43.17. Henley set a new meet record winning in 42.23, led by Joseph Janney, who set meet records in the 100 (10.68) and 200 (21.55). North Bend’s Noah Bustamente was sixth in the 200 (22.72).
Marshfield was third in the 4×400 relay (3:23.90) also won by Henley (3:22.17). The top four teams all ran faster than the previous meet record.
Marshfield’s Chandler Wyatt was third in the 400 (51.02) and teammate Christian Baugh was second in the 300 hurdles (41.73).
Siuslaw’s Henry Stone was second (4:05.39) and Bandon’s Beckett Pahls third (4:09.12) in the 1,500, both with new bests.
Siuslaw’s Will Johnson soared to a meet record in the triple jump (47-2) and was second in the pole vault (13-6). Bandon’s Noah Brown and Jonah Brown both cleared 13 feet, placing third and fifth, respectively. Marshfield’s Max Johnston cleared 12-6 for sixth.
Bandon’s Aiden Wallace was second in the javelin (155-0). Marshfield’s Glen Crook was fifth in the discus (130-0) with Coquille’s Michael Lenninger seventh (118-2) and Tyler LeBrun eighth (116-7).
Bandon’s girls scored 85 points and finished second behind champion Klamath Union, which had 98. Marshfield was eighth, North Bend 10th and Coquille 11th.
Henley won the boys team title with 160 points. Marshfield was fifth and Bandon and Siuslaw tied for seventh.
District meets for the various leagues around the state are this week.
The Sky-Em League district meet for Marshfield and North Bend is Friday and Saturday at Junction City High School.
In Class 3A, the special district with Coquille has its meet Friday and Saturday at Phoenix High School. Siuslaw’s special district, meanwhile, will have its meet Thursday and Friday at Sutherlin High School.
In Class 2A, the special district with Myrtle Point, Bandon, Reedsport and Gold Beach has its meet Friday at the new facility at Umpqua Community College.
For Powers and Pacific, their Class 1A special district has its league meet the same day at McKenzie High School near Blue River.
