‘Glad I didn’t have to pay for that’: Pros react to Ronda Rousey’s anticlimactic win over Gina Carano at MVP MMA
Ronda Rousey delivered a vintage performance, but not everyone was satisfied by her lopsided win over fellow comeback queen Gina Carano at the first-ever MVP MMA event on Netflix.
As she did against so many challengers in her prime, Rousey submitted Carano in seconds (17 to be exact) with her trademark armbar to cap off an eventful evening at Intuit Dome in Los Angeles. The card was loaded with star power, including Rousey, Carano, Nate Diaz, Mike Perry, and Francis Ngannou, and the evening was filled with several memorable moments.
Rousey was a huge favorite over Carano, who hadn’t fought since 2009, and she looked the part as she dismantled Carano before the women’s MMA pioneer could even throw a single strike. That left some viewers dissatisfied, with veteran Corey Anderson writing on Twitter, “Just glad I didn’t have to pay for that. I’d be pissed if not only did I stay up til midnight but dropped $60 on a 17-sec finish.”
