Christian McCaffrey already has plenty riding on the upcoming NFL season. But before organized team activities even begin, the San Francisco star received another life-changing reason to stay motivated. McCaffrey and his wife, Olivia Culpo, announced Friday that they are expecting their second child together.
The couple shared the news through a joint Instagram post that quickly drew attention across both the NFL and celebrity worlds. The photos included family moments with their daughter Colette, ultrasound images and their dog alongside them as they celebrated the announcement.
“Best birthday gift ❤️ Baby #2 coming soon 🥹,” the caption read.
The announcement comes less than a year after the couple welcomed their first child in July 2025.
Christian McCaffrey enters huge season with growing family
The timing of the announcement adds another personal milestone during a critical stretch of McCaffrey’s career. The 49ers star is preparing for his 10th NFL season and his fifth year in San Francisco. Even at 29 years old, McCaffrey remains one of the league’s most dynamic offensive players and is still central to the 49ers’ championship hopes.
Last season reminded everyone exactly how dominant he can still be when healthy. McCaffrey played all 17 games and delivered another massive statistical year, rushing for 1,202 yards and 10 touchdowns while adding 924 receiving yards and seven more scores as a receiver. His comeback season earned him AP Comeback Player of the Year honors, another Pro Bowl appearance and yet another All-Pro selection.
That production helped stabilize a San Francisco offense that once again expects to compete for a Super Bowl. But now, McCaffrey is balancing more than football.
Olivia Culpo and McCaffrey continue building spotlight relationship
McCaffrey and Culpo have become one of the NFL’s most recognizable couples over the last several years. The pair officially married in June 2024 after a long, highly public relationship that frequently drew attention online and at major events around the sports and entertainment world. Since then, both have openly shared moments from their life together, especially after becoming parents for the first time. Friday’s announcement showed another major step in that journey.
For many athletes, the NFL offseason often becomes the only extended opportunity to fully slow down and focus on family life. That makes this period especially meaningful for McCaffrey before another demanding season begins.

Super Bowl pressure still surrounds the 49ers star
As emotional as the family news is, football expectations are not disappearing anytime soon. The San Francisco 49ers still enter 2026 believing they have a championship-caliber roster. And despite all of McCaffrey’s personal accolades, one major goal still remains missing from his résumé.
A Super Bowl title.
San Francisco signed McCaffrey to a major extension because the organization views him as one of the core pieces capable of delivering that championship window. With two years remaining on his current deal, every season carries extra urgency.
Now, McCaffrey heads into that pressure-filled season with an even bigger family waiting for him at home.
