On Friday morning, the Golden State Warriors shared a post on X wishing the Golden State Valkyries good luck in the 2026 season. Later in the evening, the Valkyries opened up their new WNBA campaign with a contest against the Seattle Storm in the Pacific Northwest.

Led by Janelle Salaun, the Valkyries cruised to a 91-80 victory over the Storm in their season opener. Salaun tallied a team-high 20 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field to go along with two rebounds and an assist in 27 minutes off the bench. Salaun heated up from long distance, drilling five 3-pointers on 11 attempts from deep.

Three other members of the Valkyries recorded double figures in scoring with Kaitlyn Chen scoring 14 points off the bench, while starters Veronica Burton notched 16 points and Kayla Thornton added 13 points in Golden State’s first win of the new WNBA campaign.
New Valkyrie forward Gabby Williams scored seven points on 2-of-9 shooting from the field while grabbing six boards and dishing out four assists in her debut against her former squad.
After opening the season on the road, the Valkyries will head back to Chase Center for their home opener on Sunday in the Bay Area against the Phoenix Mercury.
