Around a month before the start of the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, the US hasn’t yet issued visas to the members of the Iran national team, according to the Iranian football body FFIRI.
“They haven’t issued a visa to anyone yet and it’s taking a very long time,” FFIRI president Mehdi Tah told broadcaster Nasim.
The team will travel to Turkey for around 15 days at the end of the week and hope a solution can be found in the meantime.
Taj added that he was hoping to meet with FIFA president Gianni Infantion and FIFA secretary general Mattias Grafström to discuss the matter.
Taj has recently sharply criticized FIFA and set conditions for Iran’s participation in the World Cup. Among other things, the nation wants to ensure that there will be no political comments directed at the team or the federation during the matches.
Iran will play all of their Group G matches against New Zealand, Belgium and Egypt in the US.
Since the end of February, Iran is involved in a military conflict against the US and Israel.
