Joao Cancelo made history by winning La Liga with FC Barcelona on Sunday night, becoming the only player to win five of Europe’s major domestic league titles.
Signed on loan from Al Hilal during the January transfer window, the 31-year-old has become an integral member of this Barcelona outfit.
Naturally, the Catalans are working to sign him permanently and Cancelo, for his part, is also very eager to continue, as he has revealed on multiple occasions.
Joao Cancelo lashes out at Al Hilal
Speaking to the media after last night’s win over Real Madrid and the subsequent league title celebrations, Cancelo hit out at Al Hilal, claiming that the Saudi Arabian club had misled him.
“At Al Hilal, unfortunately, there were people who didn’t tell me the truth. They told me they were going to register me for the Saudi league, and then, when the time came, they didn’t. And I’m always the one who ends up looking like the bad guy…,” he said.
“But at least I keep my word; I wouldn’t change that for anything in the world. I’ve always been the same person. I’m straightforward. I don’t hold a grudge against anyone,” Cancelo added.

Talking about the title win, the Portuguese international noted: “Today I’m here, I’m very happy, I’ve won a title with Barça, which for me is the best club in the world.”
Cancelo also stressed that he knows exactly what he wants for his future, but is keeping it private so as not to interfere with negotiations.
“I know what I want, but I can’t say it publicly. We’ll see what happens.”
Talking about his record of winning the titles in the top-four leagues in Europe, Cancelo remarked:
“The record of four league titles in four countries doesn’t surprise me, because I know what I do every day; I know how dedicated I am to football. It’s been my passion since I was a child. I believe that God always puts things in their rightful place.”
The full-back also reiterated his affection for Barça, saying: “For me, it’s a unique feeling. Barça is a very special club to me; I was a Barça fan even before I came here. Winning a league title with this club is very special.
“We’ll have to wait and see what happens, because, as you know, I’m on loan from Al Hilal.”
