Four standout student-athletes from Oak Hills High School have committed to compete at the collegiate level, officially signing letters of intent at universities across California and Oregon.
Representatives from Hesperia Unified School District congratulated Jordan Spencer, Brycen Bennett, Jorge Mejia Zavala and Trevor Johnson in a press release, stating that their transition from the “small town feel” of Hesperia to prestigious college programs across the West Coast is a testament to the hard work of the district’s staff, coaches and students.
The success of the four young men comes from a culmination of years spent balancing early mornings, late practices and the demands of the classroom. As they prepare to take their talents to the next level, they leave behind a shared legacy shaped by the Oak Hills athletic program.
Jordan Spencer, track & field
According to Hesperia Unified School District representatives, Spencer showcases a premier talent in track and field. He has accepted a full-ride scholarship to join the Cal State Fullerton Titans, an NCAA Division 1 university.
The track star solidified his legacy this year as the 2026 Mojave River League Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year. Achieving a rare feat, he became a quadruple Mojave River League Champion in the 4x100m, 400m, 200m, and 4x400m, leading the Bulldogs to their fourth consecutive league title.
Spencer is currently in the midst of a historic CIF postseason following a dominant tenure as a Bulldog, with record-breaking senior year statistics. He set a school record in the 400-meter race: 47.29 seconds, the eighth fastest time for a high schooler in California. He set a second school record in the 4×200 relay race, running a 1:25:28 segment, the third fastest for a high schooler in California.
The exemplar student-athlete will also graduate with a 3.8 GPA.
“Jordan shows up to practice every day with a positive attitude and a relentless drive to improve,” Oak Hills track coach Jeffrey Gilbert said. “He raises the standard for everyone around him. He will undoubtedly do great things at CSUF.”
Brycen Bennett, soccer
Bulldog soccer standout Brycen Bennett has signed to play for Corban University in Salem, Oregon. Hesperia Unified School District noted in a written statement that Bennett was instrumental in leading the Bulldogs to a 15-7-1 record and a CIF Southern Section second round playoff run this season.
The scholar-athlete has a 3.5 GPA and will join the winning Salem Warriors program in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.
“Brycen’s success is driven by his relentless work ethic and his constant hunger to improve,” Oak Hills High School soccer coach Caleb Calvert said. “He is an outstanding young man who represents the best of Oak Hills.”
Jorge Mejia Zavala and Trevor Johnson, football
Oak Hills seniors Jorge Mejia Zavala and Trevor Johnson will carry the Bulldog football legacy to the University of La Verne. According to information released by the Hesperia Unified School District, the duo helped anchor a squad that secured its fifth consecutive undefeated Mojave River League season and championship this year.
Zavala maintained a staggering 4.27 GPA, ranking 21st in a graduating class of 582. Johnson earned a GPA well over 3.0 while serving as a dedicated leader on the field.
Oak Hills football coach Robert Metzger praised the pair, stating, “Jorge and Trevor are exceptional young men; hardworking, dedicated, and truly coachable. They represented Bulldog football with pride, and I have no doubt they will have continued success on the field and in life.”
