May 12—Centerville joins Butler as local teams ranked No. 1 in the state.
The new Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association state polls were released Monday. Centerville (19-2) moved up two spots to the top ranking in Division I, garnering seven first-place votes.
The Elks completed an undefeated run to a Greater Western Ohio Conference championship after sweeping No. 7 Beavercreek (16-5) and No. 8 Springboro (16-5) to end league play.
Centerville is ahead of Olentangy Liberty (20-2), which got two more first-place votes than Centerville received, but it 17 total voting points behind. Archbishop Moeller (15-5) swapped spots with Centerville and dropped from first to third.
Butler (17-3) remained No. 1 in the D-III rankings and is joined by four other Southwestern Ohio teams in the top-8 of the rankings.
Badin (17-3) remains at No. 2, and Kenton Ridge (18-4) is No. 3 this week. Tippecanoe (17-5) moved up to No. 5, and Bellbrook (18-3) is up to No. 8. Monroe (14-4) all appears at No. 17.
In D-II, Troy (19-1) moved up one spot to No. 2 in the rankings. The Trojans did not receive a first-place vote, with No. 1 Lakewood getting 19 of the 20 vote.
Urbana (17-5) is the only local team appearing in the D-IV rankings, coming in at No. 15.
Coldwater (17-2) is No. 2 in the D-V rankings, joined by No. 14 Arcanum (18-2), No. 15 Versailles (15-6), and No. 16 Anna (15-4).
Mechanicsburg (18-0) is No. 3 in the D-VI rankings, and St. Henry (16-2) is at No. 5. Fort Recovery (13-6) is in a tie for 19th.
In the D-VII rankings, Newton (15-3) is up to No. 6, followed by No. 7 Fort Loramie (14-7), No. 9 Minster (12-6) and No. 17 Russia (9-10).
