Utah added the first running back of its 2027 class on Tuesday night with the commitment of Skyline running back Jonah Mailei.
The 6-foot, 200-pound running back rushed for 1,197 yards (6.2 yards per carry) and eight touchdowns last year for the Eagles. Out of the backfield, he also caught 25 passes for 347 yards and four scores.
He was named an honorable mention on the Deseret News’ 4A All-State team.
Mailei, who chose the Utes over offers from Boise State and Oregon State, is currently unranked by national recruiting services.
Mailei’s father, Marcus, played running back at Weber State and appeared in two games for the New Orleans Saints in their Super Bowl-winning season.
Mailei becomes the fourth overall commit in Morgan Scalley’s 2027 class and the second offensive player, joining three-star wide receiver Money Parks, three-star defensive lineman Tiki Teeples and three-star edge rusher Jackson Henderson.
