The first Subway Series of the year begins Friday as the New York Mets host the New York Yankees to open a three-game set.
Both teams have seen something of a reversal of fortune over the past week or so. The Yankees have come back to earth from their 15-2 run with six losses in their last eight games, dropping their last two series against the Orioles and Brewers. On the other hand, the Mets’ 12-game losing skid from April is long gone and the team has won three of its last four series including a sweep of the Tigers this week.
Friday’s opener features a matchup of two of MLB’s top pitchers so far this season, with Clay Holmes getting the ball for the home team against Cam Schlittler.
Holmes enters with a 1.86 ERA and has not allowed more than two runs in any of his first eight starts. Schlittler is second only to Shohei Ohtani with a 1.35 ERA and has held opponents without a run in six of his nine starts.
Who will begin the weekend with a win? Here’s everything you need to know to watch the series opener.
