Dates, times set for pair of Detroit Lions preseason games

The NFL released its entire 272-game regular season schedule last week. Now comes word of part of the Detroit Lions‘ preseason slate.

Game times and dates are set for two of the Lions‘ three exhibition games, according to their opponents.

The Lions open the preseason at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13 against the Cincinnati Bengals and close exhibition play at 3 p.m. Aug. 29 against the Indianapolis Colts. Both games are on the road.

No time or date has been set yet for the Lions’ second preseason game at Ford Field against the Washington Commanders Aug. 20-23.

Lions coach Dan Campbell said the team will not take part in joint practices this year but could play its starters more in preseason games.

Lions quarterback Jared Goff has played in two of a possible 15 preseason games in his five years in Detroit, the exhibition opener in 2021 and 2022. He played two series in a 2021 game against the Buffalo Bills, completing 7 of 9 passes and leading one field goal drive, and one series against the Atlanta Falcons in 2022, when he was 3 of 4 and led one touchdown drive.
