Former LSU commitment Kevin Thomas has committed to North Carolina, he announced Wednesday, the same day he took an official visit to Chapel Hill.
He becomes UNC’s fourth high school commitment for the 2026-27 roster, joining forward Maximo Adams, center Sayon Keita and guard Malloy Smith. Thomas is ranked the No. 79 overall prospect in the 2026 class by 247Sports and No. 94 by Rivals. The 6-foot-7 wing requested his release from his LSU letter of intent in late March after the Tigers fired coach Matt McMahon.
A three-time Florida Class 1A state champion at Weston (Fla.) Sagemont Prep, Thomas averaged 15.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.0 steals as a senior, earning multiple player of the year honors in his home state. He originally committed to LSU in October over finalists Auburn, Florida State and Miami.

Thomas won two of those state titles alongside guard Matt Able, who committed this offseason to transfer from NC State to UNC.
Thomas has played in multiple USA Basketball events and is slated to attend the U18 National Training Camp next week. At a USA Basketball minicamp in April 2025, he measured 6-foot-6 without shoes, 190 pounds, with a 6-9.75 wingspan.
