6A Second Round
Mountain Ridge 2, Layton 1
No. 7 Mountain Ridge advanced to the 6A state tournament quarterfinals by defeating No. 10 Layton 2-1 in the second round. Dallan Searle contributed significantly for Mountain Ridge, scoring one goal and providing an assist. Juan Pardo also found the back of the net for the Sentinels, while Joseph Rudolphi scored Layton’s lone goal in the first half.
Farmington 3, American Fork 0
No. 3 Farmington advanced to the 6A quarterfinals with a 3-0 win over No. 14 American Fork in the second round of the state tournament. Jack Burrup led Farmington with two goals, while Kade Mackintosh added another. Farmington’s defense, anchored by Tristin Sackett and Jaxon Beynon, secured the shutout.
Salt Lake Academy 2, Syracuse 0
Bryson Bro secured a shutout as No. 4 Salt Lake Academy defeated No. 13 Syracuse 2-0 in the second round of the 6A state tournament. Tyler Hinson opened the scoring with a goal assisted by Tyson Harris, and Harper Wilson added a second unassisted goal. The victory advances Salt Lake Academy to the 6A quarterfinals.
Bingham 3, Corner Canyon 0
Bingham’s Kai Bloomfield secured a shutout, leading No. 8 Bingham to a 3-0 victory over No. 9 Corner Canyon in the 6A state tournament second round, clinching a spot in the quarterfinals. Mason Simmons, Sam Leggat, and Will Harris each found the back of the net for the Miners, with Leggat and Harris also contributing assists. The game remained scoreless at halftime before Bingham surged ahead in the second half.
Lone Peak 6, Herriman 1
Top-ranked Lone Peak defeated No. 17 Herriman 6-1 to advance to the 6A state tournament quarterfinals. The Knights asserted their dominance early, leading 4-0 in the first half with goals from Blake Stuart, Patrick Stevenson, Diego Roberts, and Nike Ratanawan. Herriman’s Cooper VanDewark scored their lone goal in the second half, but goals by Cohen Peters and Will Denney sealed the comprehensive victory for Lone Peak.
Skyridge 3, Riverton 1
Brody Alleman’s two goals led No. 5 Skyridge to a 3-1 victory over No. 12 Riverton in the second round of the 6A state tournament. Skyridge jumped ahead early with a goal from Austen Hudson in the first half, and secured the win with two second-half goals from Alleman. Jack Macpherson scored Riverton’s lone goal during the second half. Skyridge advances to the 6A quarterfinals.
Copper Hills 1, Westlake 1 (Copper Hills advances in PKs 4-2)
Jeffrey Cutler’s opening goal for No. 11 Copper Hills was matched by Ty Christensen’s equalizer for No. 6 Westlake, leading to a 1-1 draw in regulation during the 6A state tournament second round. In the ensuing penalty shootout, Copper Hills triumphed with a 4-2 advantage, advancing to the 6A quarterfinals. Despite Westlake’s efforts, it was Copper Hills who secured the decisive victory.
Davis 4, Weber 0
No. 2 Davis advanced to the 6A quarterfinals with a decisive 4-0 victory over No. 15 Weber in the second round of the state tournament. Tyler Roe led Davis with two goals, while Ryder Goodyear and August Christiansen each added a goal. Christiansen also contributed an assist, and Grant Groberg provided another assist for the Darts, who will move on to the next round.
5A Second Round
Pleasant Grove 4, Bonneville 1
Mauricio Rondan scored twice to lead No. 2 Pleasant Grove to a 4-1 victory over No. 18 Bonneville in the second round of the 5A state tournament. Ryker Brooks scored the only goal for Bonneville in the first half, tying the game 1-1 before the Vikings dominated the second half. Trey Okey and Connor Merryweather each added a goal and an assist for Pleasant Grove, which moves on to the 5A quarterfinals.
Bountiful 3, Box Elder 0
Cameron Martin’s two goals propelled No. 5 Bountiful to a 3-0 victory over No. 12 Box Elder in the second round of the 5A state tournament, advancing the Redhawks to the quarterfinals. Bountiful broke through in the second half when Martin scored twice, with an additional goal from Ezra Christiansen. Goalkeeper Jovany Lobato earned the shutout, keeping Box Elder scoreless.
Maple Mountain 7, West 0
Carter Egbert scored twice and added an assist, leading No. 6 Maple Mountain to a 7-0 victory over No. 22 West in the second round of the 5A state tournament. The Golden Eagles dominated early, netting four goals in the first half. Colton Preston also contributed two goals to secure the win for Maple Mountain, advancing them to the 5A quarterfinals. Ethan Antonino recorded a shutout for the Golden Eagles.
Skyline 3, Northridge 2
Nick Ware scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lift No. 8 Skyline over No. 9 Northridge, 3-2, in the second round of the 5A state tournament. Grayson Orum added two goals for Skyline, who tied the game in regulation with Ware’s decisive contribution in overtime. Chance Terry scored both goals for Northridge in the losing effort.
Granger 5, West Field 0
Chris Castro scored twice to lead No. 4 Granger to a 5-0 victory over No. 20 West Field in the second round of the 5A state tournament. Granger broke a scoreless first half with five goals in the second, including contributions from Ethan Vu, Adrian Hernandez, and Joshua Bautista. Isaac Torres Vargas provided an assist for the Lancers, who advance to the 5A quarterfinals.
Alta 6, Spanish Fork 1
No. 1 Alta surged ahead with a 5-0 lead in the first half to secure a decisive 6-1 victory over No. 17 Spanish Fork in the second round of the 5A state tournament. Tanner Kunz led Alta with two goals, while teammates Tyler Jordan, Tate Coccimiglio, Jack McAllister, and Beckham Butler each added a goal. Spanish Fork’s Micah MacArthur scored the lone goal for the Dons in the second half. Alta advances to the 5A quarterfinals.
Hillcrest 2, Hunter 1
Carlos Leon scored twice in the first half to propel No. 7 Hillcrest to a 2-1 victory over No. 10 Hunter in the second round of the 5A state tournament. Hillcrest’s assist leaders included Jeter Pugh and Gideon Kirby, each providing an assist. Nick Vargas found the net for Hunter, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Hillcrest’s early lead. The Huskies will advance to the 5A quarterfinals.
Salem Hills 4, Olympus 3
Brooks Barker scored three goals to lead No. 14 Salem Hills past No. 3 Olympus 4-3 in the second round of the 5A state tournament. Salem Hills jumped ahead early with two goals in the first half and maintained their lead despite a late effort from Olympus. Dmitri Nguyen added another goal for the Skyhawks, securing their advance to the 5A quarterfinals.
4A Second Round
Timpanogos 3, Provo 1
Beckam Gomm contributed significantly with a goal and an assist to lead No. 5 Timpanogos over No. 12 Provo 3-1 in the second round of the 4A state tournament. The Timberwolves jumped out to a quick lead with two first-half goals, including one from Cooper Michaelis, while Evan Haderlie sealed the win with a second-half goal. Diego Reyes scored the lone goal for Provo in the first half. The victory advances Timpanogos to the 4A quarterfinals.
Desert Hills 3, Mountain Crest 1
Boone Heaton scored twice to lead No. 4 Desert Hills past No. 13 Mountain Crest, 3-1, in the 4A state tournament second round. Todd Simister added a goal for Desert Hills, while Clifford Westhoff, Houston Ence, and Callaway Bentley contributed with assists. Daxton Groll scored the lone goal for Mountain Crest. Desert Hills advances to the 4A quarterfinals.
Murray 3, Park City 1
Michael Martinez scored twice as No. 1 Murray defeated No. 16 Park City 3-1 in the second round of the 4A state tournament, advancing to the quarterfinals. Martinez opened the scoring in the first half and later converted a penalty kick after Axel Lopez was fouled in the box. Carlos Nieto-Rosales added to Murray’s tally, assisted by Jack O’Bryan, while Tanner Pidwell scored Park City’s sole goal in the second half.
Stansbury 1, Green Canyon 1 (Stansbury advances in PKs 5-4)
Nathan Remley scored the equalizer in the second half for No. 8 Stansbury, and they edged past No. 9 Green Canyon 5-4 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 tie in regulation during the 4A state tournament second round. Cannon Clark put Green Canyon on the board first with a goal in the first half, assisted by Stockton Ashcroft. With the victory, Stansbury advances to the 4A quarterfinals.
Ridgeline 2, Snow Canyon 1
William West and Jace Johnson each scored as No. 2 Ridgeline defeated No. 15 Snow Canyon 2-1 in the second round of the 4A state tournament. Ridgeline secured a spot in the quarterfinals after keeping the match scoreless in the first half. Eli Platt scored the lone goal for Snow Canyon in the second half.
East 5, Orem 1
Aiden Franz scored twice for No. 3 East as they beat No. 14 Orem 5-1 in the second round of the 4A state tournament, moving on to the quarterfinals. East took control early with a goal in the first half, and added four more after the break. Additional goals from Teo Hummasti and Kai Halstenrud-Updyke sealed the commanding victory. Landon Michaelis scored the lone goal for Orem in the second half.
Dixie 1, Judge Memorial 0
Felix Meza’s decisive goal in overtime lifted No. 6 Dixie to a 1-0 victory over No. 11 Judge Memorial in the second round of the 4A state tournament, advancing the Flyers to the quarterfinals. Brygunn Soderquist contributed with a shutout to keep Judge Memorial scoreless throughout regulation and overtime. The victory ensures Dixie moves forward in the tournament, while Judge Memorial’s campaign comes to an end.
Crimson Cliffs 1, Sky View 0
Portman Busk scored the decisive goal in the first half as No. 7 Crimson Cliffs beat No. 10 Sky View 1-0 in the second round of the 4A state tournament. The victory advances Crimson Cliffs to the 4A quarterfinals. Goalkeeper Chase Prince and Nate Lee combined for the shutout, effectively defending Sky View’s efforts throughout the match.
