There is a lot of attention garnering on the Los Angeles Angels this season for a few different reasons. Mike Trout’s resurgence, Jose Soriano’s excellence, and Jo Adell’s home-run robberies have been the best storylines this year.
But, there’s a lot of attention on the Angels thanks to their likelihood to be sellers at the MLB trade deadline. With plenty of interesting players worth acquiring, it’s not a surprise the Angels are drawing trade interest.
Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller is calling upon the Angels to “sell what they can,” which might include a 37-homer slugger in Jo Adell.
“Maybe Jo Adell with one year of arbitration eligibility remaining, too, if they get a tantalizing offer for the right fielder who hit 37 home runs in 2025,” Miller writes.
However, while the theory of trading Adell might make sense, this potential trade would be a massive mistake for the Angels.
Angels trading Jo Adell would be a mistake
Adell might be a realistic trade candidate for the Angels, as he’s under club control through 2027 and would surely draw plenty of interest if he were made available.
But there’s a reason why the Angels shouldn’t trade Adell. He’s the kind of player the Angels should try to sign long-term, and if they can’t, then consider trading him at next year’s deadline.
While the 2026 roster isn’t good enough to contend, keeping Adell for at least the rest of the 2026 season, after he’s turned into a fan favorite, would help provide at least some reason for fans to tune in every night.
Trout and Soriano shouldn’t go anywhere either, barring a ridiculous trade offer that no team would actually give up. Adell should be in the same conversations as those two stars.

He might not be as great a hitter this season, with his .713 OPS a bit below his .778 OPS from last year, but his .269 average is a good bit higher than his .236 average, and he’s beginning to find his power stroke recently.
Adell is the kind of player the Angels should try to keep around for the long haul, as he’s a fan favorite and would be a great pairing with Trout in the outfield.
Strictly looking at team-building, trading him now would make sense. But, in reality, he’s the kind of player the Angels should try to keep instead of trading.
