The Los Angeles Dodgers have made a surprise move to put Brock Stewart, a 2025 trade deadline acquisition, on the injured list with a bone spur in his left foot.
According to Stewart, he sustained the injury while recovering from his shoulder surgery, and he aggravated his foot, causing the pain to become noticeable.
Luckily for the rest of the pitching staff, his injury allows for Blake Snell to cleanly slot into the active roster for his start on Saturday.
Before Stewart’s injury, right-hander Paul Gervase, who was just activated on Friday after Tyler Glasnow was put on the injured list with back spasms, was the pitcher set to be quickly optioned for Snell.
Now, Gervase gets a more permanent stay, at least until one of Stewart or Glasnow gets healthy.
For Stewart, this is another injury, his second with the Dodgers.
The right-hander pitched for almost a full month for OKC down in Triple-A, slowly working himself up until he got activated, though his time with the Dodgers has only lasted a matter of days.
Luckily, the Dodgers have Snell getting healthy, so he can go deep into games.
How is Snell feeling before his start?
According to Dave Roberts, Snell is feeling quite good overall, and the team felt confident enough to give up a sudden call-up.
“Well, physically, he said he was in a great spot, which is most important. I think that he felt that his changeup was something that he wanted to tighten up a little bit more in that particular outing,” Roberts said before Snell’s Start
“But he said the command was good; the ball was coming out with real good life. So all that stuff, the markers that we checked, so I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch for him to kind of speed up that process and pitch for us tonight.
“He was never, as we talked recently, he was never completely right last year. So that’s obviously reflective of the stuff and velocity.
“It’s coming up pretty easy right now. He says he hasn’t felt this good in quite some time.”
