The Georgia Bulldogs (38-18) softball team punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament after a strong SEC Tournament run that featured wins over LSU and Oklahoma. The Bulldogs lost in the SEC Tournament semifinals in a heartbreaker to Texas.
Georgia will host the Athens Regional, which features four teams. The Bulldogs are the No. 10 national seed and would be projected to play the No. 7 national seed Tennessee Volunteers in the super regionals if highest ranked seeds advance in the tournament.
Georgia was hoping their comeback SEC Tournament win over Oklahoma would propel them to a top-eight seed, but the Dawgs came up just short.
Georgia will host the Athens Regional from Friday, May 15 to Sunday, May 17 at the Jack Turner Stadium. The Bulldogs’ opening game is against Charleston at 7 p.m. ET on Friday. The other opening matchup in the Athens Regional is Clemson versus UNC Greensboro, which will take place at 4:30 p.m. ET on Friday.
Clemson is the second-highest seed in the regional. Clemson beat Georgia 10-1 back in February.
This is the 14th time in school history that Georgia has hosted a regional and the third time in the Tony Baldwin era. Twelve SEC teams made the NCAA Tournament.
