Secretary of State Marco Rubio has been having an awkward week. First he made the strange decision to quote rap lyrics while discussing the war in Iran, and now he’s gone for a slightly uncomfortable meeting with the Pope after the president attacked the religious leader on Truth Social.
“The president would have gone there to meet the Pope himself but they decided it was too dangerous — when he enters a church all the holy water starts to boil,” says Jimmy Kimmel in the clip above. “So they sent little Marco to a summit that got off to an awkward start.”
Kimmel goes on to play footage of Rubio entering a room and shaking hands with Pope Leo XIV, exchanging a few brief words, then posing for an unsmiling photo.
“Alright, good talk,” says Kimmel. “That’s what Marco calls ‘vibing’ with someone. They have the chemistry of parents at their daughter’s wedding two months after the divorce.”
