The full release of the 2026 NFL regular season schedule is still about two days away, but if the rumor that has surfaced this evening is accurate, the Minnesota Vikings may have another country to add to their collective passports.
The word has started circulating among numerous sources that the Vikings will be traveling to Mexico City to face the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL’s first game in Mexico City since 2022. The game is reportedly set to take place in Week 11 and will be aired on Sunday Night Football on 22 November. The game would take place in Estadio Banorte in Mexico City, the venue which was formerly known as Estadio Azteca.
If the rumor turns out to be true, it will be the fourth time in five years that the Vikings will play a game on foreign soil. They played in England in 2022 and 2024, and were part of a two-game European road trip to Ireland and England in 2025. In this case, not only would the Vikings not be leaving North America, they wouldn’t even be leaving the Central time zone.
In fact, after vast amounts of research. . .and, by that, I mean a 30-second Google search. . .it turns out that the flight times from Minneapolis to Mexico City and Minneapolis to San Francisco are nearly identical. So, even though this game would be classed as a 49ers home game, the travel arrangements would actually seem to favor Minnesota. Again, the Niners would be the ones shifting time zones in this case, not the Vikings.
Again, at this point, these are unconfirmed rumors, but this is the first leak that we’ve seen that involves the Vikings in some way, so we thought we’d bring them to you here.
What do you think of this news, folks?
