Each year, the Polynesian Bowl showcases some of the top high school football players in the country. Next year’s game will feature a name that USC fans are quite familiar with.
This week, it was announced that legendary Trojans head coach Pete Carroll will serve as one of the head coaches in next year’s game. His opponent will be former Texas and North Carolina head coach Mack Brown, marking a coaching rematch of the iconic 2006 Rose Bowl more than two decades later.
“It’s an incredible honor to be part of the adidas Polynesian Bowl and to serve as a head coach,” Carroll told 247Sports. “The Polynesian community has given so much to football at every level. This event is about more than football — it’s about celebrating culture, family and the tremendous talent of these young men.”
“Having Mack Brown and Pete Carroll lead the adidas Polynesian Bowl is truly special,” Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Chairman Jesse Sapolu said. “They are legendary leaders who reflect the values of our game and our community, and we’re proud to have them help guide these young men.”
Seeing Brown and Carroll matching up for the first time since that classic showdown in Pasadena will certainly be cool to see. Of course, all of the high school players that they will be coaching were still several years away from being born when USC and Texas faced off for the national championship in January of 2006.
Next year’s Polynesian Bowl is set for January 15, 2027 in Honolulu.
