Brandon Valley track athlete Mikah Peters and Sioux Falls Jefferson softball player Tya Devericks were voted by readers as the Argus Leader’s Athletes of the Week from April 27 to May 2.
Peters won the boys Athlete of the Week with 54.47% of the vote.
Peters capped his Dakota Relays career with a trio of victories in the 1,600-meter race, 3,200-meter race and 1,600-meter sprint medley relay. The 1,600-meter run was a personal best, and the sprint medley relay run was a season best and now the 21st-best time nationwide.
Devericks won the girls Athlete of the Week with 70.15% of the vote.
Devericks had a monster week both in the circle and at the dish. She hurled 15 innings, allowing two runs on 11 hits and one walk while striking out 15 in three outings. The star junior also went 7-for-11 at the plate with two doubles, two triples, five RBIs and a run scored over the same three games.
