Alex Bowman’s future in NASCAR is very unclear. With Bowman in a contract year, it is uncertain if he will return to the No. 48 car for Hendrick Motorsports after the 2026 NASCAR season. This comes after the Hendrick Motorsports driver missed four races for vertigo earlier in the year. Now, one NASCAR insider has suggested that retirement could be an option.
It wouldn’t be out of the question if Bowman decides that he is too beat up to continue racing, as reported by FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass. The Hendrick Motorsports car has dealt with several injuries and health issues that have taken him out of the No. 48 car three times over the last five seasons.
In 2022, Bowman suffered a concussion near the end of the season, while he fractured a vertebra in his back during the 2023 campaign. The driver of the No. 48 car was healthy for two seasons before being diagnosed with vertigo in March. No one would blame Bowman if he walked away from racing. For now, it remains a possibility until proven otherwise.
