One possible offseason scenario raised questions about whether a longtime contender could abandon its identity for one championship gamble. And the proposed move would reshape multiple franchises almost overnight.
Bleacher Report proposed a chaotic four-team trade that would send Jimmy Butler out of Golden State. The Warriors would acquire two-time Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard and Bradley Beal.
The Clippers would receive Butler and the number one overall pick in this deal. Memphis would land the fifth and eleventh selections while Washington slides to third.
The Warriors would consider this because Stephen Curry’s championship window is closing fast. “Win-now is the default so long as Stephen Curry plays at a superhuman level when healthy,” the report noted.
Butler suffered a season-ending torn right ACL in January against Miami. His $57 million salary for next season becomes difficult for the franchise to carry without guaranteed production.
Curry also missed 27 games with a right knee injury during the regular season. The front office faces mounting pressure to maximize whatever remaining title years still exist.
Four teams must agree simultaneously for this deal to work. Multiple draft picks scatter across the league in every direction. Golden State risks its remaining roster depth and future capital.
This trade chaos reflects a broader offseason trend across the NBA. ESPN reported the Bucks are fully open for business on Giannis Antetokounmpo trade offers. That adds another superstar variable to an already volatile landscape.
Whether realistic or not, this proposal revealed how aggressively Golden State must think. The franchise still believes another championship run remains possible with the right roster move this summer.
